WHY USE A QUALITY BROKER

Anyone can sell you a policy. A quality broker makes sure it pays.

Insurance looks simple until the day you need it — and by then, the quality of the policy and the person who arranged it is the only thing that matters. Here’s what a good broker actually does for you, and how to tell the difference between someone who places cover and someone who’s genuinely in your corner.

THE BENEFITS

What a quality broker actually does for you

BEFORE YOU BUY

Understands your risk first

A quality broker starts with your operation — premises, contracts, people, equipment — and works out what could actually hurt you. The policy comes second; understanding comes first.

THE FINE PRINT

Reads the wording so you don’t have to

Two policies with the same name can respond completely differently. Exclusions, conditions, sub-limits and definitions are where claims are won and lost — reviewing them is the core of what we do.

MARKET ACCESS

Reaches beyond the big brands

Brokers can access insurers and specialist underwriters that don’t sell direct at all — often the difference for unusual risks, hard-to-place trades and sector-specific covers.

WHEN IT COUNTS

Fights your corner at claim time

This is the moment a broker earns their keep. We prepare the claim properly, deal with the insurer and assessors, and push back when a response isn’t fair — you’re not doing it alone.

EVERY YEAR

Reviews cover as you change

New premises, bigger contracts, more staff, new services — cover set-and-forgotten becomes cover that doesn’t fit. An annual review keeps your program matched to reality.

DAY TO DAY

Handles the admin that slows you down

Certificates of currency for contracts and sites, mid-term changes, added vehicles, new locations, insurance clauses in agreements — one call, handled.

CHOOSING WELL

How to spot a quality broker

Not all broking is equal. Whether you choose us or anyone else, these are the questions worth asking — and the standard we hold ourselves to.

  • They ask detailed questions about your operation before talking products

  • They explain what's not covered, not just what is

  • They compare on cover quality, not just premium

  • They tell you clearly how they're paid, in writing

  • They're reachable — a person, not a portal, when something goes wrong

  • They review your cover every year without being chased

COMMON QUESTIONS

Broker FAQs

Does using a broker cost more than buying direct?

Not necessarily — and sometimes it costs less. Brokers can access wholesale markets and negotiate terms, and the bigger financial factor is usually cover quality: an uncovered claim costs far more than any difference in premium. Where a fee applies, we tell you before you commit, so there are no surprises.

How do brokers get paid?

Typically through commission paid by the insurer out of your premium, a fee we agree with you, or a combination. Whatever the arrangement, we disclose it — our Financial Services Guide sets out how we’re remunerated, and we’re happy to walk you through it in plain English before you proceed.

What's the difference between a broker and a comparison website?

A comparison site shows prices from insurers who’ve agreed to be listed, and leaves the assessment, the fine print and any future claim entirely to you. A broker is a qualified adviser who assesses your risk, recommends specific cover, and stays involved for the life of the policy — including when you claim. One is a price list; the other is a professional service.

If I ask for a review, am I obliged to switch or buy anything?

No. A review is exactly that — we look at what you hold, compare it against your situation and the market, and give you a straight assessment. Sometimes the honest answer is that your current cover stacks up, and we’ll tell you so.

Will a broker really make a difference when I claim?

This is where the difference is most visible. A well-prepared claim with the right documentation, lodged and followed up by someone who deals with insurers every day, generally moves faster and hits fewer roadblocks than one navigated alone. And when an insurer’s response isn’t reasonable, you have a professional pushing back on your behalf.

My renewal just arrived and the premium jumped. Can you look at it?

Yes — renewal reviews are one of the most common ways new clients come to us. Send the renewal notice and current schedule through, and we’ll compare the market and the wording. Even if the outcome is staying put, you’ll know your price and cover have actually been tested.
