TRADES & CONSTRUCTION
You look after the job. We’ll look after the risk.
Every day on the tools carries risk — a damaged ceiling, a stolen trailer of gear, an injury that keeps you off site for months. We arrange liability, tools, vehicle and contract works cover for tradies and construction businesses, and get certificates of currency to builders and site managers the day they ask.
WHO WE HELP
From one ute to a whole fleet
Electricians | Plumbers & gasfitters | Builders & carpenters | Painters & plasterers | Landscapers & fencing | Concreters & tilers | Air con & refrigeration | Civil & earthmoving | Handyman & maintenance |
WHAT WE ARRANGE
Cover for the site, the ute, the tools and you
THE ESSENTIAL
Public liability
The cover every tradie needs — property damage or injury caused by your work, on site or after you’ve left. Builders, sites and licensing bodies routinely require proof before you start.
YOUR LIVELIHOOD
Tools & equipment
Power tools, hand tools and gear covered against theft and damage — in the ute, on site, in the shed. We check the overnight-in-vehicle conditions, because that’s where cheap policies bite.
ON THE ROAD
Commercial vehicles
Utes, vans, trailers and fleets insured for business use, with options for tools of trade, hired replacement vehicles and downtime while yours is off the road.
BUILDING WORK
Contract works
Covers the project itself while it’s being built — storm, fire, theft of materials and damage to works in progress. Essential for builders, and often required under building contracts.
IF YOU CANT WORK
Personal accident & illness
Sole traders aren’t covered by workers compensation. If an injury or illness keeps you off the tools, this cover helps replace income while you recover.
BIG IRON
Plant & machinery
Excavators, bobcats, scissor lifts and attachments — owned or hired in — covered for damage, theft and road risk, with hired-in plant liability where contracts require it.
DESING RISK
Professional indemnity
If you design as well as build — design-and-construct work, certifiers, trades giving specifications — PI covers claims your design or advice caused a loss.
THE BUSINESS
Management liability
As the team grows, so do employment, safety-investigation and regulatory exposures. This protects the directors and the business itself.
SOMETHING SPECIFIC?
Tailored to your trade
Hot works, asbestos-adjacent work, heights and depths limits, welding — high-risk activities need declaring properly or claims can be refused. Tell us exactly what you do; we’ll place it properly.
WHY IT MATTERS
Three calls we get from tradies every week
The builder wants a $20M certificate before I start Monday
Someone broke into the ute — every tool is gone
I did my shoulder — I can't work for three months
COMMON QUESTIONS
Trades & construction insurance FAQs
Common limits are $5M, $10M and $20M, and the right one usually depends on who you work for — many builders, commercial sites and government contracts specify $20M before you can set foot on site. Licensing bodies in some states also set insurance requirements for certain trades. We’ll look at where you actually work and recommend a limit that keeps every door open.
Only if the policy says so — and this is the single most common gap in tradie insurance. Policies differ on whether tools in an unattended vehicle are covered, whether the vehicle must be locked or garaged, and what the overnight limits are. Tell us how you actually store your gear and we’ll match the policy to reality, not the other way around.
Generally your policy covers your legal liability, which can include liability arising from subbies’ work — but it usually doesn’t insure the subcontractors themselves. Most principals expect subbies to hold their own public liability, and your policy may require you to collect their certificates. We’ll help you set up a simple process so it doesn’t become an admin headache.
Public liability covers injury or damage you cause to other people and their property. Contract works covers the project you’re building — the structure, the materials, the works in progress — against events like storm, fire and theft. Builders typically need both; which party to a building contract must arrange the contract works cover is usually set out in the contract itself.
Usually not — workers compensation generally covers your employees, not you as the owner. That’s why personal accident and illness cover exists for sole traders and partners: it can help replace income while you’re unable to work. The structures vary by state and setup, so it’s worth a conversation about yours specifically.
Yes — absolutely. High-risk activities like welding, work above certain heights, underpinning or demolition often need to be declared and specifically covered. Undeclared activities are one of the main reasons trade claims get refused. Be upfront with us about everything you do, even occasionally, and we’ll make sure the policy matches it.
