Aweso Insurance

NOT-FOR-PROFIT & COMMUNITY SECTOR

Insurance for organisations that exist for people, not profit.

Charities, community groups, sporting clubs and associations carry risks most businesses never face — volunteers, public events, committees of well-meaning locals, and funding agreements with strict insurance conditions. We arrange cover built around how your organisation actually runs.

WHAT WE ARRANGE

Cover built for the not-for-profit sector

COMMITTEE PROTECTION

Association & management liability

Protects your committee, board members and office bearers personally if the organisation faces claims over decisions, employment matters or governance.

THE ESSENTIAL

Public liability

Cover if a member of the public is injured or property is damaged — usually required before councils, schools or venues will let you use their facilities.

YOUR PEOPLE

Volunteer personal accident

Volunteers aren’t covered by workers compensation. This cover supports them if they’re injured while helping your organisation.

EVENTS

Event & activity cover

Fetes, fun runs, fundraisers, festivals — one-off or recurring events covered, including stallholders and cancellation options.

PROPERTY

Property, contents & equipment

Clubhouses, halls, sporting equipment, instruments, tools and donated goods — insured where you store them and where you take them.

DIGITAL RISK

Cyber insurance

Member databases and donor records make NFPs a real target. Cover for data breaches, scams and business email compromise.

ADVICE & SERVICES

Professional indemnity

If your organisation provides advice, counselling, training or care services, this protects you against claims arising from that work.

MONEY HANDLING

Fidelity & crime

Protection against theft or fraud involving the organisation’s funds — a difficult topic, but one funders and auditors increasingly expect you to address.

SOMETHING ELSE

Tailored to your organisation

Overseas projects, motor fleets, personal accident for participants — if your organisation does it, we can look at covering it.

WHY IT MATTERS

Three situations we help NFPs handle every week

icon-1-new3

The grant requires $20M public liability

Funding agreements and venue hire contracts often set specific insurance conditions with tight deadlines. We check the wording, arrange the cover, and issue the certificate of currency your funder needs.

Should our committee members be worried?

Volunteer board and committee members can be personally exposed for the organisation’s decisions. We explain the risk in plain English and arrange liability protection so good people keep putting their hands up.

Something happened at our event

When there’s an injury at a fundraiser or damage at a hired venue, we manage the claim and deal with the insurer — so your team can focus on your community, not on paperwork.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Not-for-profit insurance FAQs

We're a small volunteer-run group. Do we really need insurance?

Often, yes — even small groups usually need public liability before hiring a hall or running an event, and committee members can carry personal exposure regardless of the organisation’s size. The good news is that cover for small groups can be more affordable than most committees expect. It’s worth a conversation before assuming it’s out of reach.

Are our volunteers covered by workers compensation?

Generally, no — workers compensation schemes cover employees, not volunteers. That’s why volunteer personal accident cover exists: it can help with things like loss of income and out-of-pocket expenses if a volunteer is injured while carrying out organisation activities. The right structure depends on your state and your activities, which we’ll walk through with you.

Our funding agreement specifies insurance requirements. Can you help us meet them?

Yes — this is one of the most common reasons NFPs come to us. Send us the insurance clause from your funding agreement, lease or venue contract and we’ll arrange cover that meets it and provide the certificate of currency your funder or venue requires.

Does our management liability cover our volunteer committee members personally?

It depends on the policy — this is exactly the fine print worth checking. Association liability and management liability policies can extend to office bearers and committee members personally, but definitions and exclusions vary between insurers. We review the wording so you know precisely who’s protected and for what.

We run one big event a year. Can we insure just the event?

Often yes — one-off event cover exists for exactly this situation. Whether a single-event policy or an annual policy makes more sense depends on how much activity your organisation runs across the year; sometimes the annual option costs little more and covers everything else too. We’ll price both so you can decide.
